As You Are
"Church should be a place you can come for healing."
I watched a clip of Joyce Meyers and she said something that stayed with me; "Church should be a place you can come for healing." We all have a story. Sometimes it's a story of a bad childhood. A story of a bad marriage that lead to affairs and divorce. A story of a bad temper. Maybe we have an addiction to alcohol, drugs, food, sex. Maybe we feel like God could never love me after what I have done. That is so far from the truth. God loves you so much that He sent Christ to die on the cross for all of your sins and my sins.
Christ is in us if we have accepted Him. Therefore the Bible says we are a new creature in Christ. It is possible to change those things that separate us from God.
Who is at church though? People. People who judge. I'm not a perfect mother, wife, teacher, Christian, person...I have baggage, a past of failures and hurts. So do you. We all have baggage from the past, the present. We will even continue to pick up baggage in the future.
Think for a minute how many times you, yourself have been guilty of making a judgment about someone. I have too. In addition to judgmental people, there are other kinds of people in the church too. These are hurting people, saved and unsaved, looking for a safe place to be close to God and be with others who are hurting and need healing.
More than half of my Christian married friends have ended up in divorce. They came to church smiling, serving, and acting as if nothing was wrong. What if they could have come to church and said we fought again this morning and I feel like our marriage is hurting. If they could have been real and felt encouraged and safe to reveal the truth, would their marriages have survived? People's children go through terrible teens. What if those parents could have come to church and healed by the loving arms of people who just wanted to be there, listening, without judgment. Could those teens and families have been saved? We all go through problems, parenting, marriage, financial, jobs, friendships etc. Can we all agree to stop judging? Start loving those around us no matter what they are going through and show the love of Christ to hurting people?
